O.H. Chitwood III, M.D.O. H. Chitwood III, M.D., is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and hand surgery, and specializes in hand and upper extremity disorders. He and his three children call the Wiregrass area home.
After receiving his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, AL, Dr. Chitwood entered the U.S. Navy, where he completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Chitwood served for nine years, including two years as medical officer on a submarine tender, and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. When he left the Navy, he completed a year-long fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the Philadelphia Hand Center and the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Chitwood is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
